The Internet Journal of Chemistry

Using the Internet Journal of Chemistry

Registration

Registration for the Internet Journal of Chemistry for the entire 1998 is optional. There will be no subscription fees for 1998.

So why is there an option for registering? As will be described in the next section, the Internet Journal of Chemistry is provided using a specialized web server that allows each individual reader to customize the layout and features of the journal. By registering for the journal, your particular journal configuration will be saved and thereby available upon your next visit to the journal.

We will not be selling or distibuting in any way the list of registrants. This option is available simply as a convenience to you now and to demonstrate how access to the journal in the future will appear.

Customizing Your Journal

One area of the journal that we strongly encourage you to explore is the link labeled "Personal Preferences" found in the section just below the IJC logo. This link will present you with a number of different topics, under which you will be able to customize the journal presentation. Very briefly, these options are:

Articles
Allow you to determine how hypermolecules will be delivered, set on-the-fly unit conversions and standard units to use.
References
Alow you to set how reference numbers appear and the layout of the citations.
Layout
Allow you to define a frameset and target the location of the references.
Colors
Allow you to et the color of the background, text, and table rows.
We encourage you to test out these options and customize the journal to your specifications. We will be adding more customization options in the future and welcome any suggestions or comments.

Citing an Article in IJC

Citations of articles are dependent upon the style of the journal but as a guideline on how to cite an article that appears in the Internet Journal of Chemistry, the following example may prove helpful. The citation to the first article in IJC might appear in an ACS journal as:

Zhao, M.; Rice, S. A. Internet J. Chem., 1998, 1, 1 URL: http://www.ijc.com/articles/1998v1/1.
Please note that the URL strongly mimics the citation format in that it explicitly includes the year, volume and article number.

The Internet Journal of Chemistry will be cited by Chemical Abstracts. The CAS citation to the first article of IJC should appear like the following (we thank David Weisgerber of CA for this information and note that it is tentative):

Self-consistent Quantum Monte Carlo Simulations of the Structure in the Liquid and Liquid-Vapor Interfaces of Gallium and Aluminum. Zhao, Meishan; Rice, Stuart A. (The James Franck Institute and Department of Chemsitry, The University of Chicago, Chicago, Illinois 60637). Internet J. Chem. [online computer file] 1998, 1(Article 1), no pp. given (Eng), InfoTrust. Avail. URL: http://www.ijc.com/articles/1998v1/1
